WRITING ON THE WALL
Electric version on the EP Carrion Regardless
Acoustic version on the EP A Murder Most Foul
So sick of these hazy mornings
So sick of my filthy mouth
My life's going in circles
While my stomach's heading south
I've had it all and I'm sick and tired
Had it all and I've had enough
All the lies and the same old bullshit
No-one said it would be so tough
Chorus:
It's all so overrated, the writing's on the wall
My life's becoming jaded, the writing's on the wall
I'm waking up and I notice a stranger
I'm looking back but I don't know his face
A thousand lines on his ragged features
The face on someone who's lost the race
An empty shell and a man who's nothing
An empty shell of a broken man
A man who's looking out for something
And he'll destroy it if he can
Chorus:
It's all so overrated, the writing's on the wall
My life's becoming jaded, the writing's on the wall
Solo
All I need is a little sparkle
A little magic in the morning light
Someone to help me when I'm helpless
A steady hand and a guiding light
So sick of these hazy mornings
So sick of my filthy mouth
My life's going in circles
While my stomach's heading south
Chorus:
It's all so overrated, the writing's on the wall
My life's becoming jaded, the writing's on the wall
It's all so overrated, the writing's on the wall
My life's becoming jaded, the writing's on the wall
On the wall, on the wall
On the wall, on the wall...

LEE J.: "This song started life as the phrase "so sick of the hazy morning" whilst I was getting my bi-annual shower. I liked the phrase and as I kept repeating it over and over in my head the tune/rhythm started to form. This song was probably one of the most organic songs I've written, everything about it came easy. The story started forming about a guy (not me, contrary to popular belief) who is slowly killing himself with booze, he doesn't enjoy it anymore and he wants to stop. He can see the damage he's doing to himself but feels powerless to stop or even help himself. The song ends with him just wishing for redemption or help, maybe even just someone to talk to who won't judge him. As for the tune, really easy, this chord progression has been used a million times - but it works. Everything on this just came together right. From the initial first line to having a proper demoed-up workable version only took perhaps 24 hours. How cool is that?I think the version on the new cd is a lot closer to how I originally wrote it, it's a song with a stark and bleak subject matter and I think the new/alternative arrangement really does it justice. Well done everyone!"
