STILETTO GROOVE

The Story Behind The Song

 STILETTO GROOVE
From the EP A Murder Most Foul

V1
Don't know a thing about her, she don't know me
(It must be lust)
I watched her shake her thing til I could hardly see
(It must be lust)
She's got that long black hair and legs up to her chin
(It must be lust)
But she's so fine that I don't know where to begin

Don't know what she's doing but she's doing something right
(It must be lust)
I could sit and watch her all night every night
(It must be lust)
The way she shakes her hips, it burns me to the roots
(It must be lust)
But I go crazy over her stiletto boots

Pre-chorus:
I don't know how to reach you
But I've got to try
How can you dance when your heels are so high?

Chorus:
Don't wanna take a chance
Just wanna watch you dance
I ain't got nothing to prove
I just wanna see your stiletto groove

V2
She caught me staring at the club the other day
(It must be lust)
I tried to move but I just couldn't look away
(It must be lust)
She crossed the dance floor and she stood in front of me
(It must be lust)
Said "Is it my body or my boots you wanna see?"

Pre chorus
Chorus
Solo

V3
We took a taxi and we staggered through her door
Never made the bedroom so we did it on the floor
I said "There's just one thing my dreams are built upon
You can take your hat off, but the boots are staying on"

Pre chorus
Chorus x2

RATBAG: "This is a nicely perverse little song about boot fetishism! Some people have taken it that the song's about lapdancers, but really it was inspired by a nostalgic yearning for the long-gone days of my glam-rock youth when all the rock clubs were full of young ladies wearing little more than a few strategically-arranged scraps of spray-on lycra and teetering around in stiletto-heeled thigh length boots. The events of the song are fictional, unfortunately - being young, shy and a bit hopeless I could never bring myself to approach any of these exotic creatures, and by the time I'd gained a bit of experience and self-confidence most of them were gallumphing about in lumberjack shirts and combat boots, looking like badly packed bags of washing. Such are the vagaries of fashion.

The title was the original name of my first gigging band - it was called that when I first joined (apparently from a Bauhaus lyric), but it soon got changed to Sticky Fingers. I think it's one of the best sets of lyrics I've written; I like songs that tell stories, it's quite amusing and it's got little references to songs by Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and Tom Jones in it.

As far as the music is concerned, well, I always wanted to do a big drummy thing with a rockabilly-type shuffle beat and a nice big chunky riff. I couldn't be any happier with the way it turned out."
